BE A PART OF CHANGING LIVES
Dancing Classrooms is intended to be a community effort. It is dedicated to break down cultural barriers, improve critical thinking and communication skills, empower individuals, and strengthen the community. The program is not just about dance – it is transforming kids into “ladies and gentlemen” with a set of behavioral skills and social graces that will carry over into all aspects of their lives, giving them the confidence and self-esteem needed to compete in the real world. As a vehicle for teaching civility and respect for self and others, the program is an antidote to the violence surrounding our schools and communities.
This program changes the lives of not only the children who participate in the program but also the lives of the teachers, parents, and communities who support these children. The collaborative nature of Dancing Classrooms leads to partnerships between schools, school districts, the business community, and professional artists, non-profit and for profit arts providers, parents with arts experience and parent volunteers.
Additional benefits of Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio include: Improved behavior – as we teach the students to be “ Ladies and Gentlemen,” that standard is carried over into their daily classroom activity, improving student behavior and increasing classroom productivity; Improved student behavior and classroom productivity can help to decrease teacher turnover rate in schools; Increased attendance rates, which in turn can lead to increased graduation rates. As students learn to carry themselves as “Ladies and Gentlemen,” they learn appropriate and necessary behaviors and life skills that will help them throughout their education and during crucial times such as job interviews. Our program is also unique in that we focus on teaching the students to interact appropriately with the opposite gender. We teach the children to not only respect themselves but also to respect their partner, and working together requires that the children cooperate and work as a team.
