Application Requirements:

A course consists of a total of 20 lessons, taught 2 days a week for 10 weeks.

No pre-requisites or previous dance experience needed. All children are included; lessons are conducted in English. Teachers are encouraged to participate.

A culminating event (ex: ballroom breakfast, student assembly, etc) is included, enabling students to demonstrate the dances learned for their parents, teachers and other grades.

An invitation to participate in our annual Colors of the Rainbow Team Match is extended.

We need a clean, well-lit space with optimum dimensions of 30ʼ x 40ʼ, cleared of all desks, chairs, and objects. A gym or auditorium stage is ideal. The space should be quiet, contained and away from foot traffic.

It is best if the floor is hard wood or masonite/linoleum; no carpeting. A boom box with speakers sufficient to fill the space and an electrical outlet is required. An extension cord may also be necessary.

All 5th & 8th grade courses take place in schools

Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists are the lifeblood of our program, our most valuable asset

To ensure unity of purpose and intention, we train all prospective teachers extensively in classroom management skills and curricular integration, as well as ballroom training in our step syllabus. Extensive ballroom experience is not a prerequisite.

We are seeking Teaching Artists who have:

The belief that every child can learn and excel, regardless of his/her shape, size, family situation, or ethnic background

A passion for dance and creative expression that is easily communicated to, and contagious among, children

Self confidence in his/her dance and artistic abilities

High expectations for what every child can achieve through the program

An ability to express him/herself verbally in such a way that deserves attention

An understanding of children's classroom dynamics and how to manage behavior

Flexibility and a good sense of humor
