“Dancing is about connections … to our friends, to our families, to our neighbors. It is one of the most expressive ways we celebrate and communicate our cultures and communities. With Dancing Classrooms, we are able to reach children in existing classroom settings and address fundamental issues of mutual respect and self-esteem – issues that social dance puts into practice. We hope to inspire children through dance to do well, to respect one another, to be proud. COLORS OF THE RAINBOW TEAM MATCH

As a special activity, each school in the Dancing Classrooms program has the option to participate in the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match, as seen in the hit documentary film 'Mad Hot Ballroom'. At the close of each course, students audition to participate, with twelve students from each school advancing to the competition. The schools are identified by colors, with ladies wearing colored sashes and the gentlemen wearing colored cards pinned to their backs.

Congratulations to all the students, schools and families who were a part of the second annual Colors of the Rainbow Team Match on Saturday, May 15, 2010 in the Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square. We are proud of your accomplishments.
